The Framing the Elements series started as exactly that–elements that formed as a frame rather than the centerpiece of the art. I wanted to take elements from the Chronicle pictures I'd done in 2022 and create a collective that formed around the four elements.
The second part of the process was spitballing an idea that came to me from doing the Flakes. What if I duplicated the project over on itself either to infinity or until a certain amount that created a vortex? The results were far beyond what I expected them to be and there were multiple renditions of this at different angles.
With the inking of the piece all complete and the varied angles all played around with, the only thing left to do was animate it. I had no idea how I would do it, or what the result would be, but it was the animation that changed everything in this piece. It also led me to create my own music, so it could fully be my own work.
Not every experiment as an artist goes as intended, but now and then the results can be astounding, leaving you to sign your name and take credit for something that is far beyond your known capabilities. Framing the Elements was one of those moments.
